The Internet of Things (IoT) is penetrating more and more areas of application. Machines and systems require particularly reliable and flexible networking. For this Industrial Internet of Things (IoT), the experts at Fraunhofer IOSB-INA are working together with industrial companies to develop easy-to-use, requirements-oriented and innovative communication solutions based on the latest international scientific findings and standards.

Valuable information on wear, causes of faults and optimization potential of machines and systems is contained in process data. Today, this information is used for real-time control. It is often not possible to store this data in the required quality (sampling rates, quantities) (historical data) or to analyze it using algorithms. For this new level of process data utilization, we develop tailor-made IoT solutions for existing systems and new machines.
Measures
- Analysis of existing machines: control system and communication architecture
- Consulting and design of IoT-based solution architectures, e.g. using OPC UA, gateways, 4G, 5G, MQTT
- Training your employees on new technologies
- TSN test lab for informing, qualifying, developing and testing TSN applications and components
- 5G application center for applications in production
Our range of services for IoT application development
for municipalities and companies
Core benefits
- Central data acquisition and real-time monitoring
- Optimization of resource consumption
Measures
- Customer-specific use case analyses
- Consulting and design of IoT solution architects
- Training employees on new technologies
- IoT business model development
- Implementation of IoT pilot projects
Fraunhofer IOSB-INA offers manufacturer-independent IoT solutions that are specially designed for municipal use cases. New solutions can also be evaluated in our Lemgo Digital IoT real-world laboratory. Examples of the use of IoT include environmental data collection, parking space management and the digitalization of existing buildings, groundwater and river level measurement and the optimization of winter services. Further information on our IoT services can be found here.
