Seminar: Industry 4.0 Communication with OPC UA

The standardized path to Industry 4.0

The seminar “OPC UA made easy: Introduction with practical examples” presents Industry 4.0 use cases and provides an initial practical introduction to the basics of OPC UA. This seminar is aimed at anyone who (still) has little or no experience with OPC UA and would like to gain an initial insight into OPC UA technology and implementation.

The focus is on learning through application: Content is not only presented, but also directly implemented and consolidated through practical exercises.

Lecture: First introduction to OPC UA - information models, naming conventions, companion specifications, security

Practical part:

  • OPC UA Discovery
  • OPC UA connection setup
  • Information modeling
  • Implementation of client and server
Specific contents:
  • Connecting OPC UA servers and clients
  • Create and export information models
  • Implementing and instantiating secure OPC UA servers and elementary functions: read, write, call
  • Creating certificates and keys
  • Developing simple OPC UA clients
  • Subscriptions/ Abonoments and events
Target group: All newcomers to industrial automation. The seminar is aimed at specialists and managers from automation, mechanical and plant engineering and manufacturing companies. Basic programming knowledge (in Python) is required.
