Funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MWIKE NRW), the Fraunhofer Institutes IOSB-INA, UMSICHT, FIT and IOSB-AST developed an open, user-oriented overall system for cross-sectoral energy systems in cooperation with the housing company Vonovia SE and the green start-up Ampeers Energy GmbH. Three subcomponents were developed for this purpose as part of the ODH@Bochum-Weitmar research project:
- 1. an integral neighborhood planning system,
- 2. A digital market platform and
- 3. a self-learning energy management system.
These were bundled in an overarching information and communication system (ICT) using an interoperable, scalable middleware data platform. The project looks at new business models and develops and tests innovative technologies, methods and tools in order to demonstrate possibilities for an ecologically and economically efficient neighborhood energy supply in Bochum-Weitmar, but also to explore potential for transferability to other neighborhoods.
