Smart City X Open Industry - Digital twin

On 23 March 2023, the double Meetup "Smart City X Open Industry - Digital Twin" of the Open Industry Meetup of the Open Innovation City Bielefeld was hosted at Fraunhofer IOSB-INA in Lemgo.

The presentations of the Meetup dealt with the topic "Digital Twin". Florian Pethig, Group Leader Big Data Platform at Fraunhofer IOSB-INA, opened with a presentation on the use of the Digital Twin in Industry 4.0, highlighting the potential and advantages of this technology in industrial production.

Jens-Peter Seick, Project Manager Future City Solutions at Fraunhofer IOSB-INA, spoke about the diverse possibilities of data application in the Smart City. He explained how data from different data sources and in a digital twin can be used. Classic use cases are, for example: deployment planning for refuse collection vehicles, flood and road rain protection, intelligent parking guidance system. The fusion of sensor data with administrative data was emphasised as an essential step to create added value. Overall, he emphasised that the effective use of data in the digital twin in the smart city can contribute to improving the quality of life of citizens.Dr.-Ing. Stefan Ostrau, Head of Geoinformation of the Lippe district, explained how real-time data can be used in geoinformation systems. 

As part of the Open Innovation City Bielefeld, events are regularly held on innovative solutions and current trends in the smart city sector.
