Project timeframe: 24.08.2020 to 31.10.2022
Project partner: Fraunhofer IOSB-INA, Stadt Soest, DWD, Stadtwerke Soest
Funded by: Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Innovation, Digitalisierung und Energie des Landes NRW
Project goal: Implementation of a real-time climate monitoring and warning system using low-cost sensor technology in the city of Soest
Keywords: Sensor technology, climate, SenseBox, Soest, DWD, LoRaWAN, urban data platform
In the "BürgerWOLKE Soest" project, a sensor network is set up in the city area that provides real-time climate parameters. In this way, citizens can call up precise local weather data. At the same time, climate changes are investigated. The sensor network will be set up using low-cost sensor technology and the quality of the measured values will be optimized on the basis of comparative measurements with sensor technology from the German Weather Service and on the basis of artificial intelligence and machine learning methods developed by IOSB-INA. The special feature here is the participation of citizens - half of the 100 sensors were installed on private property.
